Let the Judging Begin

The IARFC has received the plan entries for the National Financial Plan Competition.  The plans will be judged resulting in 6 entries that will be tagged for the semi-finals – a GoToMeeting electronic presentation the 12 and 14th of February.

The entries came from across the US:

  • The University of North Texas
  • East Tennessee State University
  • Bowling Green State University
  • University of Illinois
  • Bryant University
  • Western Carolina Universit,
  • California State-Northridge
  • Utah Valley University

From the 6 presenters in the semi-finals, 3 finalists will be chosen. The team or individual along with their professor will be flown to Asheville, NC to present their plan in person to a group of experienced Financial Consultants for judging at the 2018 IARFC Biltmore Conference.

The mission of the National Financial Plan Competition is to give students an opportunity to craft a financial plan created from a fictional case family.  It gives the students a taste of “financial planning realism.” Professors have utilized the Financial Plan Competition as a tool in their classroom.

I found the financial planning competition through the IARFC to be an invaluable experience for my students learning experience.  Teaching the academics of financial planning can be hard for students to grasp.  The IARFC’s approach, using skills learned in the classroom by enhancing them via a real-world case study experience along with loading data into financial planning software, really drives home conceptually the math, science and emotional EQ around financial planning…. Professor Angela S. Granata, CFP, AEP, Bowling Green State University.
